Wheel stops are often ignored in parking lots and parking garages, when, in fact, they are an extremely important part of any garage or parking lot! Without wheel stops, those who are parking in your garage may find themselves parking incorrectly and hitting another vehicle. Wheel stops not only help to provide structure for your parking lot or garage, they also allow you to help your customers save their vehicles.
Quite often, a vehicle will shift out of park, or the clutch will release, causing the vehicle to roll. A wheel stop prevents the vehicle from banging into other cars, and allows them to remain safe. They are also important as the guard a pedestrian from being hit when a car is moving. If the person walking is on the right side of the wheel stop, the vehicle will be prevented from running into them, saving them from having broken body parts and, potentially, from death. Even though wheel stops are overlooked by casual observers, they are something that can not be overlooked by someone who is planning a parking lot.

There have been a number of people who have wondered why those who own stores or parking garages should take parking lot striping so seriously. When it comes right down to it, the parking lot striping that is set up for your customers is just as important as the way your customer gets treated by any of your employees.
If you have a customer arrive at your business who is unable to find parking because whomever designed the parking lot did a poor job planning it, your customer may not be willing to come back. Customers want to find not only pleasant employees when they drive somewhere, but easy access. They do not want to park half a block away to walk to your business, especially when the summer comes and the heat is intense. They want to be able to drive to your company, park their car easily, and get in, and out, without having to deal with anything frustrating. If you find that your customers complain about your parking lot, it may be time to get it looked over by a professional. The better your parking lot is planned out, the more likely your customers will be to come back.

People who are handicapped often need to have special attention paid to them. They want to be able to drive around and shop just like anyone else, and it is the job of the store owner, or the parking garage manager, to make sure that they have plenty of access, as well as plenty of room. Parking lot striping is very specific when it comes to striping the lot for handicapped people, requiring that a specific amount of space is given and that it is placed as near to the entrance as possible.
A number of parking garages and parking lots have been fined because they do not have the parking lot properly set up for all sorts of handicapped people. When you are planning your parking lot striping, you have to think not only about the people who need crutches to get around, but also about those who need wheelchairs or other assistance in order to live their lives easily. The best way to make sure that your parking lot is set up to give handicapped people easy access is to hire a professional, who will know exactly how the lot should be set up to make things easily accessible to the handicapped.

As difficult as it is to believe, there are still some businesses and parking garages that have their garage set up for back-in parking. While back-in parking is a good thing to know how to do, asking your customers to drive their car into the parking lot or parking garage and back-in is not necessarily something you want to do. Customers want an easy and fun experience, not one where they have to re-live their high school driver’s ed classes. If your parking lot is set up for back-in parking, it might be time to get it looked at.
The way your parking lot striping is set up has a lot to do with whether people will back-in or will drive straight in. If it is set up so that there is plenty of room for everyone, the customers will likely pull in and be able to easily get in and out of their vehicle. If the space is a bit more crowded, you may find people trying to back-in, which can cause a significant amount of problems in regards to accidents. If your parking lot striping has people confused and doing a lot of backing-in parking, it is time to get it professionally appraised.

When you park your vehicle in a parking garage, do you worry that it will go anywhere? Probably not. The reason that you don’t worry about your car rolling off isn’t just because the car is on a flat surface, but because there are wheel stops that are keeping your vehicle from rolling where it isn’t supposed to roll.
We often take wheel stops for granted, probably because they are all over the place, but wheel stops are very important. If you didn’t have wheel stops, your car may wind up rolling all over the place. It is very easy to get out of a vehicle before putting it in park, especially if you are on a flat surface and do not feel the car moving. One slight bump and your vehicle may roll from where you left it into another person’s vehicle, then you have to deal with insurance companies and a whole mess. Wheel stops are put in parking garages not only to help you to figure out where to park, but also to help keep damage from occurring to all of the cars in the parking lot.
